PBHS Educational Foundation to Cease Operation in Summer of 2018

The PBHS Educational Foundation was founded in 2007 and exists to provide financial support to staff and students of Paint Branch High School. Your Foundation spends almost 100% of all funds raised in two ways.

1) By providing mini-grants to staff each fall that provide financial support for educational activities that are not in the MCPS budget. Examples include:

  • Bio-diversity projects for 120 students
  • Chorus and Band performances at the Atlanta Festival
  • Grow Light system for use by 400 biology students
  • Funds to build a second TV production set and zoom lenses for photojournalist students
  • Measurement equipment for a Physics Video Studio

2) By providing scholarships to graduating seniors that can be used for higher education costs including college, technical and trade schools.

Over the past 9 years the Foundation has invested:

  • $32,000 in scholarships to seniors, and,
  • over $21,000 in mini-grants to Paint Branch High School staff

Almost all of the current members of the all volunteer Board of Directors have been serving since its inception. We have remained on the Board because we feel the work we do makes a difference to our staff and students. However, after much debate, we have reached the difficult decision that we will cease operation in the summer of 2018.

As you consider a charitable contribution this year that will directly impact the entire school community, think of the PBHS Educational Foundation. All funds will be disbursed before we shut down. All of your donations are completely tax-deductible because we are a 501(c)(3) organization. Make your gift today by visiting our donation page and read more about how your contributions are used.

We are still selling Keepsakes for the 10th Anniversary special price of any two for $20 – you must purchase two to get this price, so find a friend and place your order! This is below what it cost us to acquire them, but since we have paid for them already, all sales are pure profit. All funds from these final sales will go directly to mini-grants and scholarships. If you have been putting off getting a Keepsake, please order them now so that we can use the funds this year! You can find an order form on our website, as well as attached to this message. Please note that there are limited quantities available.

We will be selling Keepsakes before the school play in November.

We want our last year to be our biggest ever in terms of mini-grants and scholarships. All donations and keepsake purchases helps us reach that goal!

We would like to especially thank all our supporters and faithful donors over the years. You have made all we did possible!

PBHS Educational Foundation: What is it and will it continue to exist?

The PBHS Educational Foundation was founded in 2007 and exists to provide financial support to staff and students of Paint Branch High School. Your Foundation spends almost 100% of all funds raised in two ways.

1) By providing mini-grants to staff each fall that provide financial support for educational activities that are not in the MCPS budget. Examples include:

    Bio-diversity projects for 120 students
Chorus and Band performances at the Atlanta Festival
Grow Light system for use by 400 biology students
Funds to build a second TV production set and zoom lenses for photojournalist students
Measurement equipment for a Physics Video Studio

2) By providing scholarships to graduating seniors that can be used for higher education costs including college, technical and trade schools.

Over the past 8 years the Foundation has invested:
$27,000 in scholarships to seniors, and,
over $19,000 in mini-grants to Paint Branch High School staff

Almost all of the current members of the Board of Directors have been serving for the nine years since its inception. We have remained on the Board even though our children have long graduated from the school, we have retired from working at the school, we work at another school, or no longer work in the community, because we feel the work we do makes a difference to our staff and students. However, it has become increasingly hard to raise funds and find new people willing to serve on our Board. After much debate, we have reached the difficult decision that unless we can find some new Board members to carry our Foundation forward, we will be forced to cease operation in the summer of 2018.

As you consider a charitable contribution this year that will directly impact the entire school community, think of the PBHS Educational Foundation. All of your donations are completely tax-deductible. Make your gift today by visiting our website and read more about how your contributions are used.

If you feel that the work of the Educational Foundation is important and want to see it continue beyond 2018, then please consider volunteering to become a part of the Board of Directors. Our Board meetings are always open to any interested community members, and we are happy to explain our work and typical meeting calendar.

Safeway and eScrip Update

It was announced that starting August 1, 2015, Safeway is no longer participating in the eScrip program. What this means is that contributions are no longer based on your purchases when you shop at any Safeway stores.

We have been very fortunate to have this source of funding for the Paint Branch HS Educational Foundation, and during the 2014-2015 school year, we earned approximately $1,200 – enough to fund 2 mini-grants to staff or two scholarships to seniors! We are very appreciative of your support in this fundraising effort.

One important thing to remember is that eScrip is not ending, just the association they have with Safeway. The $1,200 we earned was primarily from Safeway contributions, but we also earned a much smaller amount – less than $50 – from the other eScrip partners.

What we are hoping is that you will remember us when shopping online – and use the click through from our website to the eScrip online mall, which includes sites such as amazon.com! Increasing our income from online shopping will help offset the great loss from the end of Safeway’s contributions.

Before you shop online, just go to our eScrip info page and scroll down to the eScrip Online Mall logo. Click on it, and a new window will open. It will ask you to login or register; If you want to register, then all you need provide is an email address and your name. You must also specify when you register which organization you are supporting. You are allowed to select up to three, so you can support your other children’s schools too! If you do not want to sign up, then you can sign-in use the following email address we set up – pbefescrip@gmail.com – no password required! Any online shopping you do after that will benefit our organization, and thus our school! Learn more about How to use the Online Mall.

eScrip also has a dining rewards component. If you register your credit card in your account profile, whenever you use it when eating out at certain restaurants, we will get a percentage of what you spend. Learn more about eScrip Dining.

Of course, we would also love any direct donations you might be willing to make to help offset this loss in income. We always want to do more for our students and staff and are only limited by the amount of money we can raise! There is a link for direct donations at the top of this page.
